QLD Professional Photography Awards 2012

The Queensland Professional Photography Awards are the state awards for the Australian Institute of Professional Photography. They were held this year at Bretts Wharf at Hamilton. As a part of being a proud little president that I am, I had the privilege to give out ‘The Presidents Award’ to a wonderful past president, amazing helper, friend and photographer named Melinda Comerford. She has helped me endlessly with my role. I didn’t want to give her a normal trophy so I made a pink camera which had eyes and mouth. Pink is Mel’s favourite colour incase you wondered and I made a nose out of a roll of film. I also gave William Long who has many amazing titles for his wonderful work in the photography industry, ‘My Fireman’s award’ for helping when I needed to put out fires when there were issues.The last award was ‘The Lifetime Achievement Award’ which was an honour to give to Steve Parish for his incredible contribution to wildlife photography Australia wide. My own children learnt their alphabet through the animal books Steve published. The photo with Steve in also includes my wonderful council of 5. I also attached a photo of some of the past presidents that attended. The Presidents gong I wore around my neck dates back to 1963 (the year I was born). I felt a need to invite the past Presidents to say Thank you for all their hard work and contribution to the industry. I often feel Thank you is word not said enough.

Waterfalls to a baby boy

I have known Kristy since she was a little girl. I have photographed her wedding and now her new family. When photographing a person it is always nice to capture them in an environment that is close to them, so it seemed very fitting to photograph Kristy’s pregnancy at the waterfalls at Buderim. With only a couple of weeks to go Kristy was willing to climb and play even though the water was a little cold. Weeks later her dear little man was born. A gentle little boy with the sweetest little face. Congratulations Kristy & Jarrod.

Dear little Heather at one week old

This dear little baby called Heather was so good letting me pull, push and lift her into position. That is the beauty of photographing little babies at 1 week old. They just stay in the position you put them in and as long as they have a full tummy and a warm room. This was the first time I had used this little baby

beanie which just looked so cute on her.

Hair of the Dog 2012

Hair of the Dog is a 3 day photography conference presented by the QLD Division of the Australian Institute of Professional Photography and held at Metropolitan South Institute of Tafe at Mt Gravatt. It is an amazing educational event with 13 inspiring speakers from around the globe. You don’t have to be a member of the AIPP to attend, you just have to be interested in photography. Many months of planning went into this event with social evenings and lectures covering all areas of photography and business.

5 Years from Now

An afternoon with Tim Page

What a wonderful afternoon with Tim Page. Tim is one of the world’s best-known war photographers who was critically injured in Vietnam in 1969 by an exploding land mine. He has written many books and is presently working as a photographic peace ambassador for the United Nations in Afghanistan. I asked Tim to be a part of my on going personal project on ‘Hands.’ It was interesting to find out he was also doing a project on hands. He has a cd/dvd shelf where he uses old cameras as dividers or book ends and one of the images below it shows Tim excited as he holds up for me – his first camera.

La Moda Hair at Greenslopes design these awesome hairstyles and are an amazing team. We had a couple of very willing boys on scooters who became our background talent and loved it too.

CEMETERY + MODELS = DRAMATIC, MOODY PHOTOGRAPHY

By chance this shoot was on Halloween. La Moda Hair at Greenslopes are my wonderful hairdressers and they asked me to do a shoot for their salon. My answer was ‘hell yah.’ 2 beautiful models, great makeup and fantastic hair. The cemetery had been vandalized a lot which is just so sad but an amazingly peaceful place to do such a shoot. One of the grave sites we used was my 1st grandma’s. This is the 1st shoot of many more. Love it when creative people create together. Thanks La Moda Hair.

Sophie & Simon’s beautiful day

Many years ago !!!! I was bridesmaid at Simon’s parents wedding. So to photograph Simon & Sophie’s beautiful day was very special to me. The church service was held at All Saints Catholic Church Albany Creek and then a wonderful reception at Sunset Blue at Scarborough. I had fun photographing them with the Glass House Mountains as the backdrop while plovers tried to attack me. The joys of being a photographer.
